Okay. My MMC just broke up with my FMC because she told him that she's half demon, and the daughter of the Devil himself. She's gone back to the Underworld to be her father's heir, because she he rejected her. Now, the boy realizes how stupid he was, and wants to find her and apologize, to try and win her back, but she's (literally) in hell. How should he get there, and what kind of problems should he face? I'm kind of stumped, besides the obvious, like taking stuff from Greek mythology like Cerberus and the river Styks (sp). Help?
Oh yeah, the boy has one friend and his girlfriend who will probably insist on coming with him. Plus a dog.

I'm not sure about the way to get there, but on the way... the problems he faces (or maybe yes, the way to get there too) should involve him and his fears. Like, whatever things he's afraid of, make it *those* things that he needs to pass to get to her in Hell. That's all I have, for now...

well depending of the legends there is plenty of «doors» to hell in the mortal world... some stuff like "Stand at a 3 way x-road on a full moon at midnight and a demon will appear catch you and bring you in hell"
You can use plenty of those "grama" tells that were used as warning (don't do that or you will find yourself in hell) and just make him try them.
Also even if the things he tries don't work it could attrack the attention of a demon that could find it very fun to help him go to hell and watch him pass through all the different trials on his way to see the girl. (now what does the demon win doing that? His soul? A way to meet the Devil himself cause he have business with him? An ostage? You see the picture)

You could make the dog get possessed and become a Hell hound when they get below.
Epic points if it's a tiny dog and it gains ferocious powers.

Hi knowledgemaster! Your hero's journey to Hell reminds me of the tale of Eurydice and Orpheus. In one version she stepped on a viper while she danced at their wedding and died. Orpheus went to the Underworld to ask Hades if Eurydice could be returned to him. Hades granted his request on condition that Orpheus did not turn around to look at Eurydice until they had both left the Underworld. Unfortunately, just before he left the Underworld, Orpheus turned around without thinking, curious to see if the time she'd spent in the Underworld had changed her. Now, as to how your hero gets to Hell... hmmm... If it were me, I'd do a lot of research on the internet; I'd probably eventually come across a really weird website and get in contact with the site's owner. I'd travel to meet him or her. They'd tell me which bits of my research to ignore completely as they're useless (not true at all) and then give me the right advice that I need. Or maybe your hero's friend has a wacky grandmother or a wacky neighbour who lives in his apartment building and who is always prophesying doom and gloom and the best way to get to hell? (Only this neighbour turns out to be a dead end. Could provide some comic relief, if you wanted.) As for how the journey itself is made... I wonder if it's possible for the mind to take the body to where the hero wants to go as fast as it takes to frame the request? The journey could be for some artifact, vessel or other piece of material that allows the hero to do just that. My tuppence worth, anyway!
