So. Er. I've had an idea floating around in my head for a long time now, a novella I've wanted to write for ages, and I figured it would be at least mildly appropriate for the subject matter... at least as far as supernatural fun goes, but I'm not sure it's dark enough or anything like that.
Okay. So. Basically, two people, a couple, as of yet unnamed, meet Death, as well as (perhaps) a host of other supernatural types (demons, angels, whatnot), and have interesting adventures. Maybe. Problem is, I'm not sure it has any of the other elements of a gothic novel. The overall goal of this story isn't to create something suspenseful or creepy; it's intended to be rather lighthearted on the whole which I'm not sure is appropriate, considering. Er... there's also the small matter of setting. I hadn't thought about it much but in my head, the story just doesn't feel like it belongs in a dark castle or anything like that. Nor do I feel the need to include traditional gothic novel beasties (vampires, werewolves, whatnot). Just two people, and Death and all his friends (which I would love to title it, except Coldplay beat me to it, the jerks).
So, er, I guess my problem is that it doesn't really feel very gothic, on the whole, in my head. The point of this thread then is probably to ask whether or not I should push this aside and look for something else. As I said I've been wanting to write this for a long time, and I could use the excuse to push myself to actually do it, but on the other hand, it doesn't really... fit. I think. I don't know.
Um. Anyone who actually reads through all of that: you deserve a cookie.
Anyone who actually understands more than half of what I'm saying: you deserve five cookies.
