Technique #2: Now this one is a lot of fun, and a fantastic way to stick your character into situations that you'd never have anticipated and see how they react. What you do is pick a book of any sort - novel, textbook, whatever - and take the first sentence off of pages 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, etc., as far into the book as you'd like. Using these sentences as a prompt, write a short drabble. Oh, this one sounds fun indeed! I like using found pieces as take off points! So much fun!!! Thanks!

I really like characterization exercises, especially during the days leading up to the WriMo. My favorite is hands down, Letters to Your Character, but I have fun with some of the others as well....
Now, I just need to hunt down some characters and a plot, and I will be all set.

... Now, I just need to hunt down some characters and a plot, and I will be all set. I so understand this! I have no idea what the story will be. I did come up with a title and maybe a central item. I also designed a gluebook /collage page to help inspire me. I'm thinking The Ring of Ourob. It's sounds a little fantasy-ish though.

I'm still working on everything for mine, and not finding much inspiration yet (I've just been too busy), but I am confident that I will find something before October starts. xD

And no, gothic fiction is not my usual, although I have written some before. My usual range is fantasy and sci-fi, as well as historical fiction. I think that if I need some inspiration, I can just go down into the stacks under the library at my school. It's spooky down there. : )
