Urg. Not sure if this belongs in this part of the forums. >_> Last year I heard about Q10 ( www.baara.com/q10/) for NaNo, and found it to be really helpful. Basically, it takes up the whole screen without letting you open other distracting programs. (FreeCell, you shall own me no longer. ) You can set up wordwars with yourself too, because it has a built in timer that you can set for whichever time you like. And it's free. So, if you have the problem with opening tons of things and not concentrating like I do, I'd recommend checking it out. (Or maybe you've already heard of this and I'm way behind the times, but oh well...)

I did not know about this. Sounds like a great program. Thanks for sharing.
I get distracted too, so it'll be a great program for me to use.

I am officially in love with this program.
....but my usual method of using ALT + TAB to get from window still works on it. Darn.
Thanks so much for sharing.

I'm going to have to try it out for GothNo. I've had it since last NaNo, I think, but I'm so used to MS Word, it ended up confusing me I'll just have to practice on it before October. Hey, what colors have you/will you set your background and text to? My bg is pale blue and my text is dark purple right now, but I think I might go with classic red on black ... *goes to see how eye-scorching that is* Not too bad, actually.

I've had a go at using it, but I prefer OpenOffice to be honest. OpenOffice starts filling in long words for you, and that means I can type a lot faster, which is great. I miss that too much to use Q10.

I like how you can do a complete black background. Blaring white computer screens at night hurt my eyes. Even with my new glasses....still not used to those though....

Hmm.. I'm not sure if I'm old school or just a geek but I use an AlphaSmart Neo. It's takes the computer out the picture all together (hence the distractions disappear).

Oh god, AlphaSmarts? We used those in junior high. I want one for that same reason, but I dunno where they sell it around here. Those things were so nifty...

Hey, I have Q10!! I've had it for awhile, though I rarely use it. It's pretty cool, though. I really like the fancy stuff that word 2007 has, and I'm very visually oriented... I don't know, I suppose sometimes it's distracting, but, well not really. It bugs me if I don't have everything just so, with colour coordinated stuff and so on, so I just have to use word. But there was one time where I was like F*** I just need to get this scene written!!! SO I went on Q10, and got it written. I think I might move this to the general novel talk thread. But anywhoo, Q10 is cool.

I use Q10 whenever I tell myself I'm going to write and then...don't.
As for colors, I used to have a black background with purple text but that killed my eyes... So now I have a grey background with bluish text or purple.

I love Q10. I've had it for like six months, but I absolutely adore it. I'm really excited about being able to use it for gothno and nano this year. Maybe I'll be able to stay on track instead of slacking off until the last minute this year!

Personally, I need to be able to look away from what I'm doing for a while from time to time or else the quality of my writing drops dramatically, at least until I find a groove. I'm sure I'll continue using NeoOffice (OpenOffice for us Mac users), but if I really need to force myself to do something, I'll give this program a shot. Would be useful for school, if nothing else, so thanks very much for the heads-up.

Eeee, I just used Q10 to help me write up the next chapter of my fictionpress story, and I'm officially in love!
Maybe I can finally stop flaking so freaking much!
